Duke Kahanamoku Statue

Duke Kahanamoku, the ambassador of Hawaii’s Aloha Spirit, is honored on the beach of Waikiki. Nearby are two major hotels, the Hyatt Regency Waikiki and the Sheraton Moana Surfrider. This stop is also available on the Red and Pink Lines. A statue was erected in his honor on the shores of Waikiki Beach, and is a popular landmark for tourists and locals alike. Waikiki was the playground of island royalty. Famous for its soft, sandy beaches and deep, blue waters, this was where legendary Hawaiian, Duke Kahanamoku grew up surfng. This 2-mile stretch of white sand is actually made up of eight different sections beginning across from the Hilton Hawaiian Village and ending at the base of Diamond Head.
