パンチボウル・クレーター: ホノルルの絶景を望む丘にある記念墓地
パンチボウルは10万年前ごろにできたオアフ島では比較的新しいすり鉢型の火山口跡です。パンチボウルの名になる前まではハワイ語で「Puowaina （犠牲の丘）」と呼ばれていました。
1949年に国立太平洋記念墓地として使用されるようになり、約53000の軍人が埋葬されています。敷地内にあるホノルル・メモリアルには第二次世界大戦、朝鮮戦争、ベトナム戦争で行方不明になった約29000人の軍人の名前が記されています。
パンチボウルへと向かう道からはダイヤモンドヘッド、ワイキキ、ダウンタウンの絶景を車窓より楽しむことができます。カメラの用意をお忘れなく。
国立太平洋記念墓地内は停車ができません。墓地内をトロリーが進む間は静かに見学されるようお願いいたします。
